Abstract
A risk assessment of cosmetics is a series of scientific prediction of harmful effect and probability when the consumer is exposed to hazard ingredients in cosmetics, which is composed of four steps; hazard identification, hazard characterization, exposure assessment and risk characterization. To develop the safety management in cosmetics, the policy of risk assessment has been introduced in Korea when the Cosmetic Regulation was revised in August 2011. Despite of the lack of experience and vulnerability of related foundations at the first time, the risk assessment has been successfully applied in domestic safety management system by many researchers nowadays. Since the results of risk assessment is significantly used as basic information in safety management policy, maintain the consistency and objectivity of the results is the most important. In addition, each specialized organization for the risk assessment from all over the world provides specific guidelines about the methods and procedures as a guidance based on the reality of own country. In Korea, the government released ¡®Guidance for Risk Assessment of Cosmetics¡¯ in 2011 to use is as basic instructions. This paper generally introduces the methods and related contents of that ¡®Guidance for Risk Assessment of Cosmetics¡¯ contains.
